Gaucho's Proxmark 3 vs adafruit PNR532 (Asper's advices requested ...)

Dear All,

Sorry to disturb you, but I'm interested in buying the gaucho Proxmark 3's package as i'm looking for an "universal tool" . I'm a newbie in the RFID field. My first challenge will be to be able to clone a Mifare Classic RFID sticker but I hope to be able to go further ...

I've used various android tools such as NFCTagInfo and Mifare Classic tool. Thanks to them, i know that sticker is a Mifare classic 1K with UID[4] : b00812df. I've tried to display the hex content of the tag and except the sector 0 (it starts with b00812df75880400c205000000000013 instead of 0) , all others sectors consists in a 0 serie and then ffffffffffffff078069ffffffffffff but sectors 8,9,10,11,12,13,14 are 'read failed!' Sector 15 is the same as the sector at the beginning.

Do you think that using the proxmark 3 and an uid changeable card will allow me to copy the rfid sticker please or should I use a device such as the adafruit PN532 ? or other available device ?

Thank you very much for your advice ...

Have a nice day

Depends on ultimately what you'll be doing? present & future.

If its just Mifare : go for the cheaper ACR122-U or the PN532

If you want to tackle a variety of cards/tags and different frequencies 125-134kHz (L) & 13.56MHz (HF) I suggest the Proxmark 3

My 2 cents; I actually started with the ACR122-U (TikiTag Reader last 5 years) until last year, when I
1) needed a more powerful device
2) needed to research/play with more LF cards
3) finally found enough cash for a Proxmark 3.

As regards to cloning block 0 you'll need a UID changeable or Block 0 writable card; http://xfpga.com is where I bought mine.  They work on both the Proxmark3 and the ACR122-U, can't see why they wouldn't work on the PN532 (though some extra programming my be required?).

PM3 have sniffing tool (for example if you need hack Mifare plus card some sector)

ACR122 doesn`t have this function

Libnfc can't support Proxmark3 hardware.
Libnfc supports PN53x series NFC chips. You can find list of supported devices(device matrix) at libnfc.org

Thank you very much for your help ...
Just in order to 'light my lantern', may I ask you if the cloning process of a Mifare Classic Tag is harder when using a PM3 rather than the PN532 ?
(I must add that I have no  skill at all in programming...)
Thank you for your patience and your kindness

If you want go deep into RFID hacking, I would recommend you to get both pm3 and libnfc supported device, such as PN532 breakout board. But if you want simply crack and then clone mifare classic tag, it would be cheaper to buy libnfc supported reader.

Re: Gaucho's Proxmark 3 vs adafruit PNR532 (Asper's advices requested ...)

1. Crack the keys
2. Dump card data
3. Restore dumped data into blank "magic" chinese mifare card including UID
4. PROFIT

I suggest you to familiarize with the Client GUI interface for Windows, I think you will find it good to use wink
A link to the GUI can be found here.
