LF AT91C_BASE_SSC->SSC_THR

Question:   Why does the assignment of  0x43 do?
I see 0x00, 0xFF on different places in the code,  but usaully 0x43 when it comes to LF..  Why?

[== C++ ==]
for(;;) {
		if (AT91C_BASE_SSC->SSC_SR & AT91C_SSC_TXRDY) {
			AT91C_BASE_SSC->SSC_THR = 0x43;
			LED_D_ON();
		}
		if (AT91C_BASE_SSC->SSC_SR & AT91C_SSC_RXRDY) {
			dest[i] = (uint8_t)AT91C_BASE_SSC->SSC_RHR;
			i++;
			LED_D_OFF();
			if (i >= bufferlength) break;
		}
	}
