Been working on a conference badge based on pm3

We usually do electronic badges for our conference speakers/attendees , since its our 10 year, and we've already built a number of proxmark3lcds in the past, decided to make one as an actual badge. Thought people might be interested in seeing it as it goes along.

20140103_205817.jpg

Its still a work in progress, the conference isn't for a number of months yet, and I still have a lot to do smile

It's basically a
Proxmark3 RF section
STM32F103RET6 512K CPU
OLED 128x64
SDCARD
Mini Speaker
LIFPO battery + charger
USB Micro or mini

I'm still reving and testing the board, as well as testing some part replacements , i'll update progress as we go along getting it working.

The red jumper wire is because i haven't put the IC's for the battery management on yet.

cheers

Re: Been working on a conference badge based on pm3

I didn't post the conference since i thought people might think i was just schillin' etc, but if since you're asking its the layerone conference in socal. its the 10 year anniversary so i wanted to do something a lot cooler for the badge. we usually do something a bit more involved than most conbadges but this year i pretty much lost my mind wink some of them will be prebuilt, some will be built at the con.

thats rev2 of the board, i'm making the changes for rev3 now, we're using the pm3 RF front end vs the pm3lcd front end, which we only ever got the HF side working marginally.

cheers

V3 can use HF or not? PM3 LCD can't use HF so sad

Yeah we got the PM3LCD doing HF once or twice, but very poorly the signal just wasnt strong enough. This is using the original PM3 RF section, so HF and LF as normal

conference is in march, so thats the hard limit for it. rev3 i hope to get re-routed this week or weekend, and then we'll have pcb's a few days after that.

Re: Been working on a conference badge based on pm3

We've been working away on the board. but realised that we needed a 24Mhz clocked SPI so i just routed a new board for the STM32F405 which is a big upgrade from the 103, luckily only had to change a couple of pins.

one day i'll learn to not work on proxmark projects, first the pm3lcd now this!

#rev4 going on 5

the oled works nicely though (apologies for sound levels)

I threw together an SAM7512B rev with larger OLED, SDCARD and battery PCB 4 layer board,  just going over the final checks on it before sending out to be made.

Re: Been working on a conference badge based on pm3

our 125 khz antennas arrived, diff being they use the same usb style connector instead of the hirose thats in the repo. next to test them and figure out values. they're a pain to test at manufacturer, but the pcb house (silver circuits) is really helpful.

20140512_092828.jpg

If it works, i'll post values and then people can use it to make their own, the only real change is the usb , but also whats important is the setup for the PCB house. (and you can change the silkscreen wink

Re: Been working on a conference badge based on pm3

i could use  f = 1.0/(2.0*PI*root(lc)) or i could change the caps out.

Capacitance    Voltage    Optimal kHz
1000pF+150pF 17.99        122.45
1000pF+100pF 17.86        122.45
1000pF            16.25        127.66
680pF              20.01        141.18
330pF              28.6          155.84
220pF              32.9          162.16
150pF              34.51        169.01
100pF              38.81        171.43
47pF                40.95        176.47
33pF                38.67        179.1

ZMPZ17n.png

the 1150pF is a 1000+150pF cap, the tols are like 10-20%, same for the 1100pF, tolerances of the caps, plus the extra caps are throwing it off, need inductance.

Re: Been working on a conference badge based on pm3

booted the STM32F4 version up, this is 512KB 168Mhz CPU, i've just got the periphery going, have to see if i can make the 125khz 24Mhz clocked lf read work with the SPI since the F1 wasn't fast enough.

20140517_152807.jpg

just a couple of cap mods.

those prototypes are two layer, the one out at the pcb fab is four layer/sam7

sure thing.

Re: Been working on a conference badge based on pm3

stm32f4/f1 variant, and battery test board.
20140518_225607.jpg

this is the STM32F405 variant, with the 1024K ROM and 168Mhz, shortish video just showing the OLED frame rate. updating an ADC capture via the FPGA passthru with me just touching parts of  the RF section. Its DMAing from the FPGA via SPI, the ADC's are DMAing as well, the OLED is currently bit banging.

20140520_211205.jpg

lf antenna right, hf middle, new 4 layer board on the right, the black one on the top is a combined LF and HF antenna board which can connect to the main board with pogos'. got the LF values figured out, just working out the HF values, they're reading but lower than wanted voltage.

Is SPI better/faster than SSC?
Where can I see the code? I couldn't find it in 032 SVN.

Re: Been working on a conference badge based on pm3

SPI is for the STM32F4 version of the board which doesn't have SSC, thats an AtmeL AT91 interface only.

it's basically the same speed, the difference is the framing.
