[solved] PM3 origninal, potentially bricked, with repetitive click.

Hello Everybody!

My PM3 is not responsive on USB after flashing the bootrom, potentially it's bricked. It's an original PM3, with the AT91SAM7S256AU, 256K.

I cloned and compiled the github at https://github.com/Proxmark/proxmark3 and started with flashing the bootrom. Unfortunately, this is where the issue started!

All appeared to go to plan, however, following the procedure, the PM3 would not be recognised by the OS (Kali in this instance) and also the relay clicked approximately every 18 seconds, with initially the red and yellow LED's on, then after the first click, just the red LED. Although when I hear the click the green and another (different) red LED flash.

However, if I connected the PM3 with the button pressed, and held continuously, it is recognised as "J. Westhues ProxMark-3 RFID Instrument"

I tried again with the Iceman Github repository https://github.com/RfidResearchGroup/proxmark3, this time compiling with PLATFORM=PM3OTHER. This did not resolve the issue.

PLEASE can some suggest the best way to get my PM3 operational again?

Many thanks in advance.

....did you read the *nix instructions? Especially the part of modem manager?

Hello,

Many thanks for your swift reply:)

Yes, I did look at that section. Here is an excerpt from dmesg;

[19011.573916] usb 2-1.7: new full-speed USB device number 13 using ehci-pci
[19011.685090] usb 2-1.7: New USB device found, idVendor=9ac4, idProduct=4b8f, bcdDevice= 0.01
[19011.685097] usb 2-1.7: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=0
[19011.685100] usb 2-1.7: Product: proxmark3
[19011.685104] usb 2-1.7: Manufacturer: proxmark.org
[19011.809596] cdc_acm 2-1.7:1.0: ttyACM0: USB ACM device
[19011.809962] usbcore: registered new interface driver cdc_acm
[19011.809964] cdc_acm: USB Abstract Control Model driver for USB modems and ISDN adapters
[19019.391600] usb 2-1.7: USB disconnect, device number 13
[19019.393941] cdc_acm 2-1.7:1.0: failed to set dtr/rts

It appears to be very different from the wiki ( https://github.com/Proxmark/proxmark3/wiki/Ubuntu-Linux ).

What do you think I'm missing?

Good,  however since you haven't said exactly which steps you taken, its a guessing game.

Re: [solved] PM3 origninal, potentially bricked, with repetitive click.

Again, many thanks for your speedy reply, it's appreciated.

I have worked through the Iceman github repo documentation. I did find a solution (many thanks for the prompt and point in the right direction).

I disabled the ModemManager.

Reflashed with pm3-flash-fullimage, whilst holding down the button for the complete process.

All now works! Many thanks.

Very quick question, the idVendor:idProduct has changed from 2d2d:504d to 9ac4:4b8f, is this part of the upgrade?

Again, many thanks for all the help, it's appreciated.

Re: [solved] PM3 origninal, potentially bricked, with repetitive click.

9ac4:4b8f is the idVendor:idProduct which makes your OS recognising it as "J. Westhues ProxMark-3 RFID Instrument". The previous idVendor:idProduct was not valid.
